Born in 1960 in New Zealand, Watson co-founded Braille Records in the 1980s to contribute to the regional experimental music scene and also organized the improvisation festival "Off the Deep End" in 1984 and 1985. Watson moved to New York City in 1987, and has since been involved with the experimental scene there. His regular collaborators include John Zorn, Lee Ranaldo, Christian Marclay, Rhys Chatham, Jonathan Kane, and Zeena Parkins. Originally a guitarist, Watson began creating his own music for the highland bagpipes in 1993. His first project featuring bagpipes was an all-star downtown band, The Wax, which included at various times Otomo Yoshihide, Kato Hideki, Andrea Parkins, Christine Bard, and Ikue Mori. He will be joined for this concert by John Krausbauer from Oakland.
